Fruit Plate

I decided to add fruits to my healthy diet. Sometimes, if I don't feel like eating cereal and soy milk, I just grab a fruit plate. It is convenient that my daughter also loves to eat fruits so we always have fruits in our fridge or in our kitchen counter.

Green Avocado

I love to eat avocado. I grew up eating avocado. We have an avocado tree few steps away from our main door. I remember eating them with rice before we go to school during my elementary years. When we got our refrigerator, I remember us making avocado ice candies.

Avocados provide nearly 20 essential nutrients, including fiber, potassium, Vitamin E, B-vitamins and folic acid. They also act as a "nutrient booster" by enabling the body to absorb more fat-soluble nutrients, such as alpha and beta-carotene and lutein, in foods that are eaten with the fruit.

Cantaloupe Drink

This is a good thirst quencher. This is made of cantaloupe meat added with milk. My daughter loves cantaloupe and since I bought more than enough, I decided to make this. It was good! I also made some ice candy out of it.

Jicama

Yay! "Singkamas!". It is called Jicama here.

I remembered going my days in Manila. I often see this food soaked in water and vendors are selling them in their push carts. You can either request to top it with shrimp paste or to just sprinkle some salt in it. This is really good to quench your thirst as it is very watery.

Fruit Snack

Andrea and I are enjoying a healthy fruit snack right now... Wanna have some?

The health benefits of grapes include its ability to treat constipation, indigestion, fatigue, kidney disorders, macular degeneration and prevention of cataract. Grapes, one of the most delicious fruits, are rich sources of vitamins A, C, B6 and folate in addition to essential minerals like potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium and selenium. Grapes contain flavonoids that are very powerful antioxidants, which can reduce the damage caused by free radicals and slacken aging.

Grapes, owing to their high nutrient content, play an important role in ensuring a healthy and robust life.

Fried Apple

Fried apples are delicious breakfast food, dessert or side dish. Not for me. I don't like them but they are served in some famous restaurants. For me, I would prefer to eat them fresh.

Lychee

I don't like lychee and it is one of Dave's favorite. Luckily you can buy them fresh in Atlanta for a cheap price. When we were in there, we bought a couple of pounds.

The lychee (Litchi chinensis, and commonly called litchi, laichi, lichu) is the sole member of the genus Litchi in the soapberry family, Sapindaceae. It is a tropical and subtropical fruit tree native to China, and now cultivated in many parts of the world. The fresh fruit has a "delicate, whitish pulp" with a "perfume" flavor that is lost in canning, so the fruit is mostly eaten fresh.

Lychee is an evergreen tree, reaching 10–20 m tall, bearing fleshy fruits that are up to 5 cm (2.0 in) long and 4 cm (1.6 in) wide. The outside of the fruit is covered by a pink-red, roughly-textured rind that is inedible but easily removed to expose a layer of sweet, translucent white flesh. Lychees are eaten in many different dessert dishes.

Lansium duranum (Lanzones)

Agriculturally, the tree is grown throughout the entire Southeast Asian region, ranging from Southern India to the Philippines for its fruit. In the Philippines, it is locally referred to as the lanzones. Lanzones fruits are ovoid, roundish orbs around five centimeters in diameter, usually found in clusters of two to thirty fruits along the branches and trunk. Each round fruit is covered by yellowish, thick, leathery skin. Underneath the skin, the fruit is divided into five or six slices of translucent, juicy flesh. The flesh is slightly acidic in taste, although ripe specimens are sweeter. Green seeds are present in around half of the segments, usually taking up a small portion of the segment although some seeds take up the entire segment's volume. The sweet juicy flesh contains sucrose, fructose, and glucose.

Oh, how I miss this...

Red Pomelo

When we went grocery shopping the other day, I saw a red pomelo in the fruit aisle. I was excited and surprise to see it so, I decided to buy one to try it. Well, Andrea loves it! I am just so glad that my daughter loves most fruit.

Back at home in Philippines, pomelo is very common in the neighborhood. Although we don't have a pomelo tree, our neighbor has a few so when we wanted one, all we need to do is ask for it.

There are three varieties of pomelo: white, pink and red. Not surprisingly, the pink and red varieties are sweeter than the white which has a slightly acidic taste.

It has a very thick peel and yellow, pink or red pulp. The pomelo, also known as the shaddock, is often confused with the grapefruit. It is sweeter and much less acidic than regular grapefruit.

The pomelo is an excellent source of vitamin C but provides little energy. It also contains potassium and folic acid. The nutritional value varies according to the colour.

The fruits in the basket are: cantaloupe, honey dew, pineapple, grapes and strawberry. Isn't it pretty? The flower which is made of pineapple and cantaloupe is really cool....
